Check out the segment entitled "History of the Club" in the History section of this website, to get a full appreciation of exactly what we are celebrating: 80 years of the affiliation of garden lovers who have learned about many aspects of gardening from experts and personal experiences, who shared themselves with the community, and who had a lot of fun.
June, on left, created a display highlighting this History for our 75th Celebration. For this our 80th, she emphasized the years since the 75th. Once again she had help from Rita.
Committees were formed to prepare for the Jubilee to be celebrated on March 1, 2013. (Pictures L to R)
Sara became the Chair of the entire event as well as Chair of the Food Committee.
Sue was in charge of the Baskets: directing all donations, organizing into baskets, decorating the baskets and arranging their placement for the Raffle.
Cindy was in charge of decorations: bows on the baskets and the centerpieces on the lunch tables.
After all of the planning, the Jubilee has been celebrated and we had a great time.
Anne provided the Speakers. The first was Rita Desilets, currently President of the California Garden Club. Inc., who gave us a certificate celebrating our 80 years of History.
Amy Davis, Archivist from the Carlsbad Library and a very involved Member of the Carlsbad Historical Society, provided some interesting anecdotes concerning Carlsbad's History even before it was incorporated.
Lisa Rodman, Director of the Discovery Center for the Agua Hedondia Lagoon Foundation, thanked us for our service helping to maintain the landscape.

Kitty, Barbara D and Elaine made up the Food Committee. They not only provided the food , served it, they also organized the self-serving dessert table.
BJ, in charge of publicity this year, arranged an article in the March-April issue of the Carlsbad Magazine. She and her husband took all of the photos at the Jubilee, including all of the ones on this page.
Carlsbad's Mayor Matt Hall helped Anne with the Raffle by pulling the raffle tickets.
The Silent Auction
Unlike the Raffle Baskets which were won strictly by chance, the items provided by Members were won through bids. The last highest bid won the item.
The Rose was painted by our President Anne, while the Still Life was painted by former President Elaine. The other 2 prizes in the first picture on the left were provided by Maxine. Her brother in law, Ray Bilbas, graphic artist, created The Orchid and The Flower Fields.
The middle picture shows the quilt and pillow made by our first Lifetime Member Mary T.
The last picture was a Gourd hand painted by Ethel.
The other items not pictured included prize packages at La Costa Spa and Resort, previously given to Ellen and now regifted!
We all had a great time celebrating our 80th year. The Volunteers who created this experience are to be congratulated...we certainly know how to throw a memorable party. The Speakers and Guests were delighted! The fundraising aspect was successful and the excitment was contagious as we waited for the winners to be called up for their prize. And in another 5 years, we get to do it all over again!
